The History of the Madam Carroll

Welcome aboard the Madam Carroll’s webpage! We are going to take you on a journey through her history. People from all over love to come and take a ride aboard this beautiful boat, but not many people know the back story of how she came about.

The Madam Carroll is the largest licensed United States Coast Guard approval vessel in Indiana, made in August of 1976! She has been up and running for 38 years!  She was built from scratch by Captain Bill Luse. In 2012 the Madam Carroll was purchased by Tom Heckard of Logansport. He brought with him many new ideas and amazing renovations. He is proud to carry on this community’s tradition.

If the Madam were on salt water, she would be classified as a ship. She is 135 feet in length with a beam of 36 feet. She is powered by twin V-8 Detroit Diesel Engines and cruises at 10 knots. Her electric power is a 150KVA powered by a 6 cylinder Detroit Diesel. She carries 750 gallons of fresh water, and 825 gallons of diesel fuel!

The first deck features an enclosed cocktail lounge with a large 22 x 18 foot oak dance floor, and a 27 x 10 foot stage. The stage was recently added onto, to be able to hold even bigger bands. This was one of Tom’s ideas that proved to be a huge success. The lounge can sit up to 200 passengers. Total capacity is 500 passengers! It is fully equipped with lights and a sound system. Restrooms are close to the lounge for a quick trip. Tom also did the community a huge favor by adding a wheelchair ramp and making the boat wheelchair accessible. This gives everybody a chance to enjoy the beauties of the lake and experience an amazing ride.

Ascending to the second deck you will find an enclosed galley complete with a snack bar and restrooms. Outside, you can enjoy the open air and moonlight view of Lake Freeman while dancing under the stars. If you’re ready for a break, cozy up under the canopy on the new cushion seating arrangements.

Visit the bridge on the third deck and meet the Captain behind the controls! Visit with them as they plot the course. Over the years we have seen some pretty good captains come and go. For starters, Captain Bill Luse controlled the boat for quite a while. Among some of the great captains to have controlled the Queen of Lake Freeman are Captain Kit and Captain Randy as well!

The versatile Madam Carroll crew is experienced in groups of all kinds. She has hosted everything from the hottest rock bands to church picnics. Consider the Madam Carroll for parties, meetings, weddings, receptions, proms, class reunions, and after prom parties! We would love to help make your occasion spectacular!
